Dear Helen,
A few lines in thanks for the parcel, which I received last night, and to let you know that I am getting along fine and hope that you are also. The parcel arrived just about the right time for my birthday, which is the 9th as you know, and I will be 22, soon be an old man with grey hair if I have any left by that time.
I suppose it will be getting pretty cold around there by now. I have seen a bit of snow on top of some of the hills around here, and I must say there are some hills. In fact, they are much too big when you have to start climbing them. I went to see a picture tonight (Deanna Durbin in “Nice Girl”). Yes, we do get to see one once in a while, when we are not too busy.
Well, how do you like high school? I suppose the next thing I will be hearing is that you have a steady boyfriend. I guess by the time that you get this it will be Xmas time, so I will wish you a Merry Christmas and close for this time, as I want to do some more writing tonight. Say hello to everyone for me. Thanks again for the parcel.
Hoping to hear from you and see you soon.
Love, Allan
