The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wood of 291 Lacroix St., Chatham. The husband of Enid C. Wood of 137 Houston St., Chatham was reported in the CDN 22/02/44 as being WIA during actions in Italy with the Cdn. Tank Corps. There were no details at that time of the nature of the wounds nor where he was wounded.
Previous Military Experience… Served with the Kent Regiment (MG)
History After Enlistment…Joseph enlisted in London, ON. with the Elgin Regt. in April 1940 and later transferred to the Calgary Unit. He trained with them in London, Sussex NB. and Debert, NS. before going overseas in 1942. It was while he was in England that he transferred to the tank regiment which he was with in Italian campaign. He served in the British Isles, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. Was wounded with shrapnel in knee. Received the Canadian Efficiency Medal, SPAM ribbon and clasp, 1939-1943 Star and clasp, Italian star, French and German Star,, the Defence [sic] of Britain ribbon and the C.V.S.M.
Joseph had two brothers also serving in the Army, Sgt. George with the First Kents and and Sgt. Jack overseas in England in February of 1944. CDN 4/02/44
