Padre Wood a veteran of the Great War where he received a Military Medal. Ernest was born in England, came to Canada in 1912. He enlisted in the CEF in 1915 and served until 1919 where he won his Military Medal. He entered the Toronto Seminary in 1929 and came to Chatham and became the pastor in 1932.
Ernest enlisted in 1941 and went overseas shortly afterwards. He went to Normandy 4 August, 1944 and since saw service in France and Belgium before he left on a 30 day leave. The CDN 16/06/44 reported that Captain Wood was in Europe. It was reported that he returned to Chatham from overseas in WWII in March of 1945 after serving in England, France and Belgium. Rev. Captain Wood and his wife were welcomed home by the entire congregation of the Regular Baptist Church and a delegation from the Cricket Club to welcome the Woods back to Chatham. He continued to serve in No. 4 Canadian Infantry Battalion (Chatham) since he returned to Canada. KCFA 18/10/45.
