Flight/ Sergeant Winegarden was born in Chatham. He served with the 419 Squadron RCAF. He was KIA May 30 1943.
Frank was the son of Mr. and Mrs. P.E. Winegarden and was employed in the Traffic Dept. of the Ford Motor Company when he was enlisted in 1941. He went overseas in September 1942 after receiving his wings at Moncton. He was a well known Windsor Bomber Pilot who was listed as presumed dead by the RCAF after being listed as missing since May of that year in 1943.
Frank was a popular member of the Windsor younger set as a member of the Alpha Kai Omega Fraternity, the Frontier Badminton Club and Westminster United Church. He was a native of Chatham but lived in Windsor since he was a baby. At that time, a brother Jack lived at home. He had grandparents Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Winegarden of Chatham who survived at that time. Frank’s plane failed to return from a bombing raid over enemy territory.
