The son of James and Elizabeth Wilson. of Chatham. Ontario. Prior to his enlistment Gordon was employed in the office of the Ontario Steel Products in Chatham. Gordon enlisted in September of 1942 and graduated at No. 4 Air Observers School, Crumlin 29 October, 1943. he was given a Christmas leave from RCAF Lachine, PQ to visit his family in Chatham. After additional training at Toronto and Jarvis he graduated at No. 4 Air Observers School, Crumlin 29 October, 1943. F/O Wilson received his commission 4 November, 1943 and shortly afterwards proceeded overseas to complete his training before joining his operational squadron; Royal Canadian Air Force, Unit Text: 432 Leaside Squadron, as a Flying Officer (Air Bomber).
The CDN 26/12/44 reported that F/O Gordon D. Wilson was reported missing after air operations on 18 December. That message received by the 22 year old airman’s parents. He had been overseas for more than a year at that time.
While in Halifax bomber NP 699 on Air Ops. target Duisburg, Germany. He died during an attack on Duisburg, Germany when his Halifax collided with another Halifax and crashed near the French/Belgian Border and crashed near Bruly, Belgium. His date of death was December 18, 1944.
