Son of Harrison G. and Ethelda  Williams, brother of Cora and Muriel of Tilbury. The husband of Ethel Annie (nee Jackson).

Jack was training at No.14, S.F.T.S (Service Flying Training School) –  RCAF Aylmer, ON., in June of 1942 when he was on a week-end furlough to visit home. TT4/06/42. LAC Williams had  completed his re-mustering course at RCAF-Aylmer before moving to I.T.S Church St., Toronto.  Jack was reported visiting his parents on a two week leave in September of 1942. TT 3/09/42. In October of 1942 Jack was an instructor at the Toronto Manning Centre when he was given a weekend leave to visit his parents. TT 8/10/42.  In May of 1943 Jack had completed an instructor’s course at RCAF Arnprior, ON., and was spending a leave at home in Tilbury. When he completed his leave he was to take up an Instructors duties in Windsor, ON. TT 20/05/43.

In December Jack was called up by the RCAF in Windsor to report there for examination. TT 5/12/40. Jack was on leave in February of 1941 from St Thomas ATS. TT 13/02/41 and 27/02/41. In March of 1941 AC. Williams was stationed at RCAF Training School in St. Thomas when he was given a week-end leave to vist his parents. TT 17/03/41 to 10/04/41 and 24/04/41. AC Williams was again on furlough from St. Thomas in May. TT 22/05/41. In June of 1941 Jack’s training moved from st. Thomas to Aylmer, ON. TT 19/06/41. In August of 1941 LAC Williams was on a week-end leave from RCAF Alymer. TT 19/08/41. Jack was reported on a weekend furlough from Alymer RCAF Technical School in November of 1941, to visit his parents and family. TT 27/11/41. He was given a Christmas furlough to his parent’s home in December of 1941. TT 25/12/41.

John received his pilot wings at No. 16 Service Flying Training School Hagersville. He was still at Hagersville in March of 1943 when he was home on leave. TT4/03/44. From Hagersville he went to Arnprior School for instructors.

The CDN 28/06/43 reported that as a result of two –plane crash at the Windsor Elementary Flying Training School where the young instructor was killed.

Age: 21, DOAA, Date of Death: 15/06/1943, Service No: J/24951. Tiger Moth 3971 and 5909 were both carrying out training sequences 6, 7 and 8 when they collided in mid-air over the aerodrome at Elementary Flying Training School, Windsor, ON. LAC L. T. Jackson and P/O Williams were killed in aircraft # 3971.

“Tribute Paid to PO. Jack Williams” Was the headline in the TT 24/06/1943. In part the article read as follows:

“A whole community paid its tribute of sorrow and sympathy for the bereaved as funeral rites conducted on Thursday afternoon of last week for the late Pilot Officer Jack H. Williams, one of Tilbury’s finest young sons who lost his life in an airplane crash when in the performance of his instructional duties at Windsor E.F.T.S. (Elementary Flying Training School).”

The CDN 28/06/43 reported that a funeral would take place 17 June at Tilbury.

“There was no music. Flowers from friends far and near embowered the room where the casket rested.”

 The pall-bearers where: P/O. W. Donald Archibald, P/O Ted Love [KIA 4/11/44], Robert H. “Bob” Falls RCAF No. 1 Manning Pool – Toronto, Thomas H. King (RCNVR) Bob Shanks and Burleigh Malott.   

Matthew Falls writes:  My grandmother, Mary Ethelda Rovena (Beno) (Williams) Brown (1896-1983), was active in IODE in Tilbury from 1933 through WWII and until she passed away in 1983. She was a Silver Cross Mother in WWII, upon the tragic death of her son due to a flying accident.  
 
From IODE Ontario Archivist:  Elthelda Williams Brown was active in the Elizabeth S. Sharpe Chapter IODE in Tilbury, for many years.  In 1966, she had been in IODE for 30 years and received her 25 year pin.  She passed away in 1983 and her death is recorded in the IODE publication, Echoes, in spring 1984.  
The Elizabeth S. Sharpe Chapter was formed in 1916, as the Tilbury Chapter IODE and changed its name in 1936.  The members erected a bronze memorial plaque for their soldiers in 1920.
