Born in Dover Twsp. the son of  Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Williams. He had spent the greater part of his life in the Tilbury vicinity. Married to Ethelda (nee Beno), they had a son LAC Jack William and two daughters Cora and Muriel at home, a son Clifford in Detroit and a daughter Laural (Ferguson) in California.

Private Harry G. Williams trained with the 186th Battalion, going overseas March 28th, 1917. He was stationed at Bramshott until August 25th, 1917, when he proceeded to France attached to the 18th Battalion. He developed synovitis knee while on active service and was admitted to Hospital November 16th, 1917, returning to the base after several weeks’ treatment.

Harrison was the Town Clerk as well the Division Court Clerk for ten years prior to his death. He died suddenly three days after having surgery for a goiter.

Harrison passed away 13 June, 1942 with internment at the Stewart Cemetery, Tilbury East, Kent Co., ON. TT 18/06/42.

Matthew Falls writes:  My grandfather Harrison (Harry) Glendon Williams, was on the SS Lapland when it hit the mine en route to Liverpool.  He wrote to his cousin about his experience and it was published in a local newspaper.  Article follows.

Also, here is an excerpt from a letter my Grandfather wrote which references the IODE:

“.…Glenn Brown got some snapshots yesterday that were taken the day we left Chatham. The train was just pulling out and Frank Glen and I were leaning out of the windows when somebody took the shot. It is good of all of us. I wish I could get some of the pictures.

 All the fellows from Kent got a box each from the 24th Kent Regt. Chapter IODE containing towels, sox, cocoa, writing paper, maple sugar, candles, pencil, toothbrush and a small box of mentholatum.

 I guess it is about time I was getting my rations. I see the rest of the boys with theirs….”

Matthew Falls writes:  My grandmother, Mary Ethelda Rovena (Beno) (Williams) Brown (1896-1983), was active in IODE in Tilbury from 1933 through WWII and until she passed away in 1983. She was a Silver Cross Mother in WWII, upon the tragic death of her son due to a flying accident.  
 
From IODE Ontario Archivist:  Elthelda Williams Brown was active in the Elizabeth S. Sharpe Chapter IODE in Tilbury, for many years.  In 1966, she had been in IODE for 30 years and received her 25 year pin.  She passed away in 1983 and her death is recorded in the IODE publication, Echoes, in spring 1984.  
The Elizabeth S. Sharpe Chapter was formed in 1916, as the Tilbury Chapter IODE and changed its name in 1936.  The members erected a bronze memorial plaque for their soldiers in 1920.
