Private Willan left London with the 99th battalion for overseas May 28, 1916, sailing from Halifax on the Olympic and reaching England June 8.
He trained with the 35th Reserve Battalion until Aug. 9 , when operated on for appendicitis.
Upon recovery he continued training from Apr. 18, 1917, at Shoreham, and Bramshott, proceeding to France Sept. 26, drafted to the 18th battalion.
While taking the town of Guenappe at 11:30am Aug. 26, 1918, he was killed in action.
