Enlisted in July 1940 at the age of 21 years. Transferred to the RCA 7^th Medium Regt. The son of Mr. and Mrs. James and Mary Willder ( a veteran of WWI – 50^th Battalion) Willder who were in charge of the Canadian Club on 29 Victoria Ave., Chatham. Two other brothers were also serving, Gnr. William enlisted 10 Sept. 1939 with the 12^th Battery RCA and Gnr. Thomas Austin, A28266, 2^nd LAA, RCA.  Husband of Elsie Willder, of Bolton Lancashire, England.

James enlisted early in the war. His father was a veteran of the Great War. He was wounded the day before his death while fighting in Holland.

Age 22 years, James was KIA 28/04/45 at Emden, Germany and is buried at Meppen, Germany and was transferred to the Holton Canadian War Cemetery in Holland.
