Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilcox of 28 Dover St., Chatham, ON. William married and English girl in February of 1941. His ‘war bride’ arrived in Canada in November of 1944 and was residing at William’s parents home in Chatham. The couple had been married in England in February of 1941.
He enlisted in September of 1939 with the RCASC at London, ON. William was a L/Sgt. A2264 with the RCASC and then to signals.

History After Enlistment… Spent over five years overseas, and served through the Sicilian and Italian Campaigns. As a result of the excellent showing he made as a soldier, he was recommended for a commission and went to England to take the necessary military course. Originally he was with the signallers [sic] but later transferred to the Infantry, and served in France.
William received his commission at Sandhurst RMC in March of 1945. He returned from overseas duty in June of 1945 and was discharged on July 24th 1945.
He served overseas for five years, in theatres of conflict in Italy and Sicily. As a result of the “excellent showing as a soldier” he was recommended for a commission and he was sent to England in July of 1944 to take the necessary military courses. CDN 29/03/45 William received his commission at Sandhurst RMC in March of 1945.
He returned from overseas duty in June of 1945 and was discharged in July. The CDN 18/06/45 that Lieut. W. L. Wilcox had arrived in Chatham to welcomed home by his wife who had been living in Chatham since November of 1944, he was also welcomed home byhis parents.
He is reported to have been appointed as Veterans’ Welfare Officer by the Federal Selective Services. CDN11/08/45(P).
