Private Jack Windover Wilcox left for overseas with the 70th Battalion April 21st, 1916, and proceeded to France in June 1916 to the 58th Battalion. He was gassed at the Battle of Ypres in June 1916, was back of the lines for two weeks; returned to his unit and served until October 9th, 1916, at the Somme, Regina Trench,  he received shrapnel wounds in the knee and back. He was admitted to an Australian Hospital in France, transferred to the 2nd Canadian Northern General, Boulogne, and after convalescence at LaHavre was sent back to England as being under-age. He then served in the office of the Adjutant General, London, until sent to the Canadian Discharge Depot, and returned to Canada in December 1917.

Private Jack Windover Wilcox received his discharge December 14th, 1917, on compassionate grounds.
