Private Charles Lewis Wilcox left for overseas with the 70th Battalion April 21st, 1916, and proceeded to France June 7th,m 1916, to the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles. At Courcelette, September 15th, 1916, he received shrapnel wounds in the right foot, right arm and left elbow; was admitted to hospital at Leige, England, where he underwent six operations and had his right leg amputated. He was transferred to Ramsgate Canadian Special Hospital and left for Canada March 22nd, 1917, arriving at Halifax March 31st, 1917. He received treatment in Davisville Military Hospital.
Private Charles Lewis Wilcox received his discharge September 30th, 1917, as medically unfit for further military service.
