Unit # R.C.A.F. - Navy, 1657 Conversion Unit

He was born in Chatham, ON. The youngest son of the late Frank C. and Bertha White. At that time the chief engineer of the Canadian Des Moins Steel co. here. His mother was Bertha White and living in Montreal, also of Lachine, PQ.. He had an older brother John serving in the RCN.

Flt. Sgt. White was the nephew of Miss Grace White and Dr. C.C. White of Chatham.  

Flt.Sgt. (Navigator) Bertram L. White was KIA 12/10/44, age 21 years, while serving in the RCAF. The Stirling LK 465, of #1657 Conversion Unit aircraft crashed while attempting a three engine landing when they crashed one half mile north of Chedburgh airfield, Suffolk, England. Also killed was FS. Clarence C. Stewardson R51668 of Port Arthur, ON.  

Buried at Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey, UK. Grave reference: 33.A.10.
