Private Ernest W. Wheeler trained with the 186th Battalion at Camp Borden and Chatham, going overseas March 26th, 1917. He trained at Bramshott Camp until proceeding to France the latter part of August 1917, transferring to the 18th Battalion. He served through all the engagements until August 26th, 1918, at Monchy, when he received wounds in the arm, returning to England September 1st, 1918, for hospital treatment. He received treatment at various hospitals in England until Jan 10th 1919 when he embarked on S.S. Royal George on Feb 10th, 1919 and reached Halifax Feb 20th 1919. His wounds broke out again on the train from Halifax to London and he was ordered to Hospital on arrival there, that was three months after three operations. At time of receiving this information he was still in hospital at London (Jan 6th 1920) but as he said his shoulder appeared to be nearly healed he expected to be discharged by spring.
