Wallace was born in Wallaceburg, ON. He was the son of  Gordon Wellman and Alice Jinkerson. He was residing in Wallaceburg before enlisting in the First Kents in June of 1941. Wallace had been stationed at Niagara-on-the-Lake when he was home on a short furlough. In 1943 he married a British Columbia woman and they had two daughters, Margaret 25 months and Barbara Joyce 10 months old. At the time of Wallace’s death Margaret was in hospital with a broken hip the result of a teeter-totter accident.   After returning to Chatham he died suddenly while on his way to the theatre with his wife and friends.  Besides his wife, he left two small children. “Full military honours were accorded the late Pte. Wellman.” CDN 18/08/45 21/08/45. Wallace was buried at Dresden Cemetery, Dresden.
