He arrived in England on the S.S. Lapland and was taken on strength with the 25th Battalion at Bramshott on April 7, 1917.  On June 1, 1917 he was posted to the 161st OMFC.  He was then taken on strength by the 161st at Witley.
He was in the Canadian Military Hospital in Bramshott for Pneumonia on July 26, but quickly recovered.

On October 17, 1917, he was killed by a motor bus at Witley.  It was later noted that the specific place of death was Milford, Surrey.  He bequeathed his estate and his belongings to his wife, Nancy.

Surrey Advertiser – Wednesday 17 October 1917

CANADIAN KILLED. Knocked Down by Motor ‘Bus near Godalming.

Pte. Albert Warner, of the Canadian Infantry, while walking along the Portsmouth-road at Witley Camp, was knocked down and killed at half-past nine on Monday night by a ‘bus belonging to the Aldershot Traction Company. The driver pulled up in a short distance after the accident, and an ambulance was at once sent for from the camp. On its arrival, however, the sergeant in charge found that the man was dead, and the body was taken to the Godalming mortuary. There was an injury to the head, and it is presumed that death was instantaneous. Warner, who hailed from Ontario, was 27 years of age, and married. An inquest will be held at Farncombe on Thursday. Details surrounding his death:  He was killed at approximately 9:15pm on the 15th of October on the Portsmouth Road, on the bill which leads into Witley Camp from the East.  The deceased was struck by a meter bus owned by the Aldershott Tractien on Company of the Witley Guidford bus service and received a fractured skill which caused instant death.  A coroner’s inquest was held at 6:00pm on the 18th day of October 1917 at the Farncombe Church.  Captain B.G. Ross attended as the Representative of the Battalion.  The Jury gave their verdict “Death by mis-adventure”.  The body was brought to the barracks on the evening of the 19th of October 1917.  The funeral left barracks at 10:00am on the 20th of October, 1917.  Major J.L. Evans was in charge.  No.845317 Pte. Allen Sands, Brother in-law of the deceased was chief mourner.  The funeral was attended by “C” Company.  Mr. Fred Siggery attended as representative.  Officer the Brigade Orderly Officer and the Brigade Staff Captain “I” were present at the grave.  The remainder of the Battalion paraded on the parade ground and presented arms while the body passes.  Captain W. Green and Captain C. McKinnen conducted the service.

The deceased was buried in grave No. 26 at the Church of England section of the Milford Cemetery in Surrey.  The grave has been marked with a wooden cross with a standard pattern giving his rank name, regimental number, and date of death.

The personal effects as per list attached have been forwarded to the officer in charge of estates (Canadian Contingent Westminster House in London).

The deceased’s pay book has been forwarded to the Chief Paymaster (7 Millbank, London)
The equipment of the deceased as per list attached has been turn into the quartermaster’s store.  The documents of the deceased have been forwarded to the Canadian Records Office (Green House Old Bailey, London)

Earnings: $20.00/month with a special pension bonus of $80.00 paid to Nancy.
