Elmer was born in Merlin, Ontario on October 16th, 1909.

He died on October 12th, 1979.

Elmer’s next of Kin are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William & Irene Ward.  Elmer was the husband of Verna May Vince.  Sons David and Frank and daughter Susan.

Pte. Ward enlisted in the Essex Scottish Regt. at Windsor, ON in October, 1942. Trained at Chatham and Petawawa and arrived in England 4/04/43.  Later transferred to RCA – Anti-Tank Regt. and went overseas.

Place of Enlistment, Chatham Kent Essex, No. 1 District Depot, Windsor, Ontario.  Date of Enlistment October 27, 1942.   Enlisted in the Essex Scottish Regt. at Windsor, ON in 1942 Later transferred to RCA – Anti-Tank Regt.  He served in Scotland, UK and Continental Europe.

The Merlin Standard 31/08/44 reported that their son Gnr. William Elmer had been wounded in action with a hip injury, shrapnel, in France; date and nature of the wound were not mentioned. It was however known that Elmer was in a hospital in England.

He was discharged September 25, 1945.

Date of Death:  October 12, 1979.
