History After Enlistment… Trained with the Kent Regiment.
Was reported on furlough in May of 1942 to spend time with his wife and family at their home on 162 1/2 Raleigh St., Chatham. CDN 28/05/42. Pte Waite was home again in June on furlough from the Kents to see his family. CDN 8/06/42 The CDN 7/05/43 (P) reported that he had arrived overseas. He had switched from the First Kent Regt to another unit to get overseas.
In May 1943 transferred to the Essex Scottish Regiment and served in the Army Service Corps, of that Regiment.
Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Ontario Steel Products in Chatham.
The CDN 22/07/44 reported that his crossing from England to Normandy was “uneventful”. “It was hard to realize there was a war not very far away.”
The CDN 28/12/45 reported that he returned to Canada aboard the S. S. Queen Elizabeth. Next of Kin: Mrs. Waite, 162 ½ Raleigh St., Chatham, ON
The CDN 29/12/45(P) reported that Pte. J. W. Waite was expected to be home soon.
