Born in Chatham, ON. 5/12/1922. John was training at No. 4 B&G (Bombing & Gunnery School) Fingal, ON. where he earned his “Wireless Badge” 13/12/1943. Attending the presentation were Mrs. John Volkes, John’s parents and a Mr. and Mrs. Harvey German.

Married, Irene Lillian (German) at Christ Church, Chatham.  His wife was living on Edgar St. and his parents on Richmond St.  when John was home in January 1944. After enjoying the holiday season with his family he departed for Nova Scotia. CDN 5/01/44  

John served overseas in England with No.419 Moose Squadron at Middleton-St.George, England flying in Wellington and Lancaster bombers. 12/03/1945 he was stationed at Warmister, England.

John married and had six children.

John passed away 22/10/1996.

History After Enlistment… Kent overseas April 24th 1944 as a Wireless Operator Air Gunner.
