He had been serving as a gunner in the Canadian Army in England since September of 1943. He was reported to have returned to Canada and was visiting his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Vickerman and his father W. H. Vickerman in from Alberta. Bob had returned to Canada to join the RCAF and after his leave was posted to Edmonton for training. CDN 27/03/44
