The Merlin Standard 24/08/44, reported that Hugh was on a two week leave from Halifax spending his leave at his home at Port Crewe. Miss Olive Fisher and SA Hugh and Mrs. Vernon spent Easter Sunday at the parents of Mr. and Mrs. J. Coatsworth.
Hugh spent the rest of his leave with Mrs. Vernon before leaving for Nova Scotia.
