Louis was born in Ostend, Belgium on September 2, 1919.  His next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Margery Vermeulen, died in 2005.  Joseph Vermeulen and Marie Vermeulen (nee Deleersnyder) were his parents with one brother Odeil Vermeulen.

His place of enlistment was Chatham, Ontario and his address at enlistment was 217 Raleigh Street, Chatham, Ontario.

Previous Military History… None

He served from January 5, 1942 and transferred to General Section of Reserve Class “E” on May 28, 1946, RCAF.

History After Enlistment… Trained near Toronto, went to New Brunswick and from there to Newfoundland, where he served as Pilot-Sergeant. Transferred to Halifax and later went overseas to England. Served as transport driver, moving supplies.

Date of Discharge… May 1946

Louis’ daughter writes: “My Dad entered the service at age of 22-23 years of age.  He may have enlisted in Chatham, Ontario (Kent County).  Some pictures show him in front of an RCAF truck in Centralia Camp in Ontario.  Served from January 5, 1942.  He apparently flew Lancaster or Douglas Air before going overseas.  Some photos mentioned stationed or trained in Gander, Labrador, Newfoundland before going overseas.  Some photos mentioned were taken in Vetersun, Germany.  Squadron – 412 VZ RCAF were mentioned and also 416 Pilots Fighter Wing (in 126 W RCAF).  Dad was apparently grounded due to poor eye sight and was later transferred to General Section of Reserve Class E, May 28, 1946.”
