Resident Wallaceburg

Of Wallaceburg. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike VanHoorn. The WN 23/09/43 reported that Mike returned to RCAF-Brandon, MB. after a 15 day furlough with his parents.

Mikes parents were advised that their son had suffered a broken arm as a result of a airplane crash at St. Thomas.

While testing a Bolingbroke bomber, the landing gear failed to operate. The big bomber slid the length of the runway, piling into an embankment. The Bombardier was instantly killed and the remainder of the crew suffered various broken bones and severe cuts from flying glass. The family was relieved that Mike was recovering nicely.  WN 3/08/44.
