Born 24/11/1912, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. William Wesley Turner and Bessie (nee Taylor) of Chatham, ON. William had an older and a younger sister.He attended Queen Mary Public School and the Chatham Collegiate Institute. He graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1939 and opened a family practice in Chatham on King St.
Dr. Turner married Elizabeth Joyce (nee Weaver) of Toronto, ON. 17 May, 1941. His wife was making her home during the war at her sister-in-laws Mrs. W. L. Dutton of King St. West, Chatham.
Previous Military Experience… None
He enlisted in 1940 and spent fifteen months on the staff of Camp Borden. From there he was attached to the Kent Regt. in Chatham. Capt. Turner was reported home on a weekend leave from Camp Borden to spend time with his family. CDN 7/02/42.
Captain and Mrs. Turner arrived back in Chatham from the west coast. They spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Turner. Mr. Turner had been confined to his home seriously ill but had reported to be slowly improving.
The Captain went overseas in May of 1943 seeing action in North Africa with the 15th General Hospital then the 4th Field Ambulance in Italy . His new appointment as V.D. Control Officer of the Canadian Army in Italy. Captain Turner arrived on leave in Chatham visiting his wife and parents CDN 1/06/43.

CDN 7/02/42. February 1942 to May 1943 M.O. for the Kent Regiment (active) June 1943 to October 1943-#1C.G.R.U. in England. November 1943 to January 1944 M.O. #rd Battalion North Africa. February 1944 to June 1944 at #15 Canada General Hospital in Italy. June 1944 to September 1944 at #4 Canada Field Ambulance in Italy. September 1944 to October 1944 M.O. for #2 Canadian Vid.T.U. in Italy. October 1944 with #5 Canadian Field Hygiene Section in Italy. February 1945 to November 1945 in Northwest Europe.
It was reported that Capt. Turner had received his Majority in the RCAMC. CDN 25/11/44(P)
The CDN 12/12/45(P) reported that Major William P. Turner returned to Canada aboard the S.S. “Mauretania”. He was discharged from the Army in December 1945.
Dr. William P. Turner passed away 19 July, 1991.
