Unit # Essex Scottish Regt, RCNVR

Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Turner of Erieau, in 1942 they were living at 26 Charteris St., Chatham, ON. Enlisted in the Essex Scottish Regt. An article in the CDN of Nov. 1941 he has transferred to the RCNVR and has the rank of Leading Stoker.

Enlisted in the Essex Scottish Regt. An article in the CDN of Nov. 1941 he has transferred to the RCNVR and has the rank of Leading Stoker.  He married Florence Alderage of Cleveland, Ohio 27 Oct. 1941.  Jack was reported to have safely arrived in Northern Ireland in March of 1942 and he was hopeful of paying a visit to his grandmother while he was there. His father William (also in the Navy) had already visited his old home town. It was reported that Jack was given a twenty-eight day leave after seventeen months at sea to visit his family. CDN 7/10/42. In November 1942 Jack had a month’s furlough at his mother’s house in Chatham and with his wife in Cleveland, Ohio before returning to the coast. CDN 6/11/42

 Stocker Turner’s father William was also serving on a British vessel in the Navy, he was a WWI veteran that had served at the Battle of Jutland.  Reported as returning from overseas on the KCFA 5/07/45, and living at 213 Wellington St., Chatham, ON.
