Born 10/07/1920 in Chatham Gore Twsp. County of Kent.  The son of Hugh and Rose (nee Macklem) Turner, of 50 Main St., Wallaceburg, Ontario. He was the brother of Fraser, Melvin, Hugh Jr. and Wayne and sister Mrs. Carl Roe of Electric.   Howard was educated at S.S. No. 15 Chatham Gore. For several years he worked on the family farm and prior to his enlistment.  He was employed at the Wallaceburg Brass Ltd.   

Howard enlisted in Chatham 1942 and trained at #12 BTC. Chatham, Ipperwash and Camp Borden, ON., prior to going overseas.  He served in England, France and Belgium. The WN 6/08/42 reported that L/Cpl. Turner of Listowell along with a friend Pte. Eugene Cunningham were guest of Howard’s parents while on a week-end leave in Whitebread. The WN 3/09/42 reported that C/Cpl. Turner, then training at Listowel, ON. had been on a week end leave, his unit was being transferred to Camp Ipperwash.   It was reported that L/Cpl. Turner was returning to Listowel, ON after a furlough at his parents home. CDN 30/09/42.  

Cpl. Turner was reported on furlough from Camp Ipperwash in November, 1942 to visit his parents in Whitebread. CDN 25/11/42   The WN 24/12/42 reported that Howard had been promoted to the rank of Sgt. as a trainer at Camp Ipperwash. He was also on Christmas leave at his parents. Sgt. Turner stationed at Camp Ipperwash spent a week end with his parents. WN unknown)   

He left for overseas 19/09/1943 to England and then to France. He was assigned to the “D”-Company of the Algonquin Regt. he went to France in early July and while in fighting in Turnhout, Belgium and while following a tank he was seriously wounded in the lumbar region and shock, when he jumped into a German trench and he died of his injuries.

Age: 24, DOW – Date of Death: 20/10/1944.  

He died of his wounds in a French hospital.
