Private Herbert John Turnbull trained with the 186th. Battalion in London, Camp Borden and Chatham. He was sent from Chatham to London for a Rifle and Machine Gun Course, and when returned, was made Company Instructor. He embarked for overseas March 26th, 1917, proceeding to France June 6th, 1917, attached to the 2nd. Division Employment Company, and later promoted to Sergeant. August 1917, he was transferred to the 18th. Battalion with which unit he remained until armistice when he was sent to England, Witley Camp. From there to Rhyl from which place he left to go to Liverpool to return to Canada where he arrived 21st February 1919.
Discharged at London April 8th 1919 due to demobilisation.
