Son of John H. and Mildred Mabel Towart, of 381 St. Clair St., Chatham, Ontario. George attended McKeough School with his brother Jack.

George enlisted in Chatham, ON. with the Kent Regt., in August 1940. reporting his age as 17 when in fact he was several years younger. He trained in Chatham and throughout Canada until January when he volunteered for overseas duty until 1943, when he voluntarily transferred to the RCR for overseas duty at the age of 17 years.

In June of 1943 George was part of the invasion of Sicily with the RCR, where he celebrated his 18th Birthday on the 27th of June, he was KIA – Date of Death: 24/07/1943.

A cable arrived from the Director of Records to Mr. and Mrs. Towart as follows:

Regret deeply A49992 Private George Towart officially reported died 24th July, 1943, cause of death not yet available. Further information follows when received.
