History After Enlistment… William joined the First Kents in 1940 and transferred to the Highland Light Infantry. While overseas he transferred to the RCASC and he received a parcel from the ladies of the Church of the Later Day Saints that arrived close to his 20th birthday in June of 1942. CDN 5/08/42. Transferred to the Toronto Scottish Regiment and went overseas in May 1942. Served three years and eight months in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The CDN 28/12/45(P) reported that William was arriving in New York on the 28th of Dec. 1945 aboard the Queen Elizabeth. Next of Kin: Mrs. M. Thorpe, 130 Sheldon Ave., Chatham, ON.
