A single farmer living in Highgate, ON., Single.  Attestation: 13 / 22/03/1916 at St. Thomas, ON. to 91st Bn. Member of Highgate Masonic Lodge No. 336 Masonic War Dead. Pte Thornton is also commemorated on the Masonic War Memorial in Malden Park, Windsor, Ontario.

Apparent Age: 40 yrs. 3 mths., Height; 5’ 4 ¾ ‘, Girth:39”, Complexion; Rudy, Eyes: Blue, Hair: Dark Brown. Medical: 13 Mar. 1916 at St. Thomas. “Fit”.

Trained December 31/16 to January to March: 1917. Unit sailed 28/06/1916 from St. John aboard the S.S. Missanabbie 4/12/16. Arrived in England 6/07/16. Joined with the 91st Bn. 20/07/16. (1st Bn. Cdn. Inf.

Date of service in England:- 6/06/16.

Charles sailed from Liverpool for Canada aboard the S.S. Missamabie 20/11/16 arrived 25/11/16.

Thornton was suffering with Asthma on Vent Hernia,  and was admitted to the Victoria Hospital, London – (MHCC) 8/02/17. 19/07/17  London C.H. to C-unit, 20/07/17 – Qulling Military C12. 21/07/17 Leek Gland from Queen’s, 6/10/17 Trans London, McH – Inf – Kingston 8/10/17. Transfer to F-Unit from Leek, Is. 

Debility 27/08/18 at London, ON. Military Hospital – Guelph. Goiter.  LMCH – London, ON. 6/07/18 – D.D.I. 30/08/18. 7/09/18 – Discharged from H.M.S. – Medically unfit for further war service.  Last Pay Certificate 7/09/18.Discharge Certificate :- Age 46, Height 5’ 5”, small scar on his right hand 7/09/18.
