Born 4/10/1911 at Wallaceburg, ON. The son of the late Robert S. and Isabella (Stewart) Thompson, while in Wallaceburg they lived at 552 Duncan St. His parents moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1916 and then to Utica, Michigan. Isabella was living in Utica, Michigan at the time of Douglas’s death. Douglas received his early education in Wallaceburg. Douglas had a brother Stewart and a sister Isobel who was married at the time of his death.
Douglas enlisted in the US Army 13 March, 1943 and he was trained in California at Camp Roberts and served in the Pacific, assigned to the Phillipines Theatre of war, serving with the 145th Company of the 37th Division. He had been overseas with the US Army for about two years and took part in the invasion of Luzon.
KIA – 30 January, 1945, while serving in the Pacific on Lauzon, Philippines. Cpl. Thompson was killed in action. Temporary burial was in the Philippines. In 1948 his family arranged to have his body returned to the United States for reburial on 7 August, 1948 at the White Chapel Cemetery, Utica, Michigan
