The son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Taylor of 20 Murray St., Chatham, ON was presented by H.R.H.  Prince Arthur of Connaught at London. Lieut-Col, H. D.  Smith who received the medal on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor.

The Military Cross was awarded to the late Lieut. Taylor for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Through his courage and disregard of machine gunfire he captured a hostile machine gun and immediately brought it into action. On his company command being evacuated, he was the only officer left with the troops and his cheerfulness at all times materially assisted in keeping up the spirits of his men during the heavy bombardment.  This followed the consolidation of his position.

The following is the invitation received by Mrs. Taylor to be present at the investiture:

His Excellency’s behalf the Military Cross –  Awarded to your son, the late Lieutenant W. W. Taylor. 1st Bn., Can. Inf. W.C.R.

Wallace was KIA ono April 9, 1918.
