Captain Tassie trained with the 24th Kent Regiment as Private. He obtained his Lieutenancy and Captaincy at the London Military School.
He went overseas with the 110th battalion in Oct. 1916 and reverted to Lieutenant to cross to France Dec. 1, 1916 where he remained but a short time when he was obliged to return to England due to rheumatism.
After hospital treatment during the winter he was made instructor with the 23rd Reserve Camp, Bramshott.
