Married, his wife Frances (nee Primeau) was living at 50 Barth St., Chatham. The father of Jimmy who was just 2 ½ years old. Tpr. Symes came to Chatham from Saskatchewan. Note: Joseph Prosper Primeau who died of wounds in Italy is the brother-in-law of Tpr. Symes.

He enlisted in July of 1940. 

John was wounded in action in Normandy. He suffered a shell fragment round to the back,  bullet wounds in the abdomen and chest. As a result of his wounds he is in very serious condition and was seriously ill.  

John passed away 16 September, 2001 at the age of 86 years old.
