Born: 4/03/1878 at Caledon, ON. The son of Crales and Margaret (nee Tighe). Enlisted in the CAMC. Reference: RG150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box: 9459-17. Item: 260772. PDF: B9459-S017, PDF: B9459-S017.  

Dr. Sweeney (physician / surgeon. He was living in Tilbury, ON. in 1913. Married to Florence Johanna (nee Price). The father of Winston Hugh 1905 (died of diphtheria – buried at St. Francois Cemetery, Tilbury Twsp.), Margaret 1908, Morris Charles 1910 and Florence Mary 1913. It was reported in the Chatham Daily Planet, 20 December, 1903, that Dr. Sweeney of Collingwood had arrived in Chatham with his family and was working the former premises of Dr. Ferguson.    

Attestation: 20/08/16 at London, ON., age 38 years, stationed at AMC. 16/12/16 Capt. Sweeney was before the Medical Board “suffering from active Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He was suffering from cough and loss of weight. The was transferred to the Military Hospital at St. Agath, PQ. at the sanatarium for treatment for six months with treatment.

Training Depot # 4, Base Hospital – Toronto 4/11/18. He had contracted flu in 1918. He resigned from AMC #4 31/05/17. Training Depot # 4, Base Hospital – Toronto 4/11/18.  He was re-taken ‘on strength’ 23/07/17. He rejoined the CAMC and practised at the Toronto base until 16/04/191  

He had been before the Medical Board 16/12/1916 at Montreal PQ. He was suffering from active ‘pulmanary T.B. (cough with expecttoraton) had lost weight and was suffering a high temperature.   He was given a leave for six weeks for “Convalescent and Medical treatment at home then living at 132 Medland Ave., Toronto. After which he was designated “Fit for service in Canada only”. 

Capt. Sweeney was transferred to the Military Hospital for removal to a Sanitarium for treatment. 

At his Medical Board 25/05/17 it was reported that “His state of health “Is in good state, heart, lungs normal and is physically fit.  Capt. Sweeney was designated “Medically Unfit”, then living at Wetaskiwin, AB., 20/08/1920. 

Danial James Sweeney passed away 11/11/1949 at New Westminister, BC.
