The son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Swainston of 111 St. George Street.  Robert  enlisted at Windsor, ON., age 21 years in 1941. 

Stationed at Guelph, ON. The brother of Marguerite. He was in Chatham to attend the wedding of his sister to Keith LeRoy Harris at the Regular Baptist Church in Chatham CDN 24/06/42  The CDN 13/03/43 reported P/O. Swainston was on furlough at the  home of his parents  on St. George St. PO. Swainston was stationed on the West Coast.

The CDN 14/05/43 reported he had received training at Valcartier, Guelph and in New Brunswick and  from Fingal, the highest in his group. He was presented with an engraved fountain pen. He went overseas as a wireless air-gunner.

Previous Military Experience… Trained with the 2nd Kent Regiment.

History After Enlistment… Trained at Valcartier, Guelph and New Brunswick. Graduated in Fingal and went overseas as a wireless air-gunner with the rank of Pilot Officer. Promoted to Flight Lieutenant.

Date of Discharge… September 6th 1945.
