The son of Dr. and Mrs. G. G. Stonehouse of Grand Rapids Michigan. He was born in Chatham when his father had a medical practice in Wallaceburg. He graduated from East Grand Rapids High School and had completed three years at Albion College.
He enlisted 1 November, 1942 at HMCS Hunter, Windsor, ON. He entered King’s College Royal Canadian Naval Academy at Halifax, NS. in September and graduated January 20, 1944. He was then stationed at St. John NB. WN 16/03/44(P)
