Born 29/08/1916 in Chatham, ON., The son of Mr. John and Mrs Stoliker . He came to Port Alma, Kent Co., ON. 14/04/1918.  Next of kin listed as Mrs. J. Stoliker of R. R. # 3 Merlin, Kent Co., ON.  

“Doug” enlisted 11/08/1941 at Woosley Barracks in London, ON. CDN 25/08/4,. in the 12th Battery, 7th Medical Regt., RCA. He traned at Camp Tracadia and Sussex NB. Before sailing for England 11/11/1941 to complete his training. While in England he married and his wife followed him to Canada after Doug’s discharge.

18 April, 1944 Doug wrote home to the Merlin Community Club:

Received the parcel and cigarettes you sent and wish to thank you very much. They really come in handy as I was just out.

So far I’ve been very unlucky at meeting any of the boys from around home, but still have hopes.

MS 18/05/1944.

Gnr. Stoliker was wounded 8/08/1944 during the Battle of the Falaise Gap in France.  The MS 24/08/44 reported that Bombardier suffered bomb fragments wounds to his right shoulder. He had been in service with the Canadian Army in France. Officially reported WIA 8 August, 1944.  In a letter received by his parents he was back in England in a hospital He wrote that his wounds were not serious and he expected to be out of hospital in a couple of weeks.

Reported arriving from overseas duty aboard the transport S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam, arriving at Halifax, NS. He was discharged from service 27/10/1945. Douglas’ wife arrived in Canada by airplane several months after his discharge.
