Gordon enlisted in August, 1942 as a Private (A67975) with the RCA. Gordon trained at Petawawa and graduated as a Lieutenant at Brockville, ON. He was made an artillery instructor at Shilo, Manitoba with his rank of Lieutenant. He was visiting friends in Rutherford while on a four day leave. He stayed in the army after the war ended as a Veteran’s Guard and was in charge of German POW’s in Northern Ontario and at Camp 10 who were kept in Kent County after the wars end to work on farms in the county. He was discharged from the army in May of 1947.
After his discharge Gordon returned to teaching as the Principle at the Dresden public School, he retired from teaching in 1948 to take up farming where he grew corn, soybeans and hay for his beef operation. He was also employed by Union Gas Company in their office in Oakdale, ON., transferring to the new gas plant in Dawn. Gordon worked in the office and as a fieldman until his retirement in 1968 In 1980 it was reported that he was living at R. R. # 4, Dresden, ON.

Supplemental Information | STINSON, GORDON C., Rank: Lieutenant; RCA; Born 02-03-1913; Son of John and Mabel (nee Monro) of Dresden, Ontario. Prior to the outbreak of the war he was a schoolteacher. He graduated from the London Teacher's College and began his teaching career in 1935. Gordon enlisted in August 1942 as a Private with the RCA.
