Born in 1911 The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stewart of R. R. #3, Chatham, ON. Charles appeared on the “Muster Roll” of the Kent Regt. (MG), N.P.A.N. [date unknown]. He transferred from the Kents, promoted to Corporal.

Charles received his Officers Certificate from the Defence Minister J. L. Ralston at the Brockville Officers Training Centre 7 November, 1942. In December of 1942 his home address was 163 Selkirk St., Chatham. CDN 19/12/42  He was sent to officer’s training school at Brockville and received his commission Christmas 1942. He was among 336 graduates along with E.C. Brisco and M. G. Walace also from Chatham. CDN 7/11/42

He enrolled for officers training and was commissioned as a Lieutenant before going overseas. 

The CDN 22/05/43(P) reported that Lieut. C. E. Stewart of Chatham was reported that he arrived overseas. A cable to his wife confirmed his arrival. He had enlisted three years ago and on the staff at No.12 BTC where he rose to the rank of Sergt. 

He enrolled for officers training and was commissioned as a Lieutenant before going overseas with the Perth Regt. and is promoted to the rank of Captain while serving ‘in the field’ in 1945. Beside the UK, he served in Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.

Captain Stewart returned from overseas aboard the Queen Mary, docking in New York City. CDN 11/07/45.     

He was discharged from the Army 21 Sept. 1945.
