John would come down with Bronchitis from 1/12/15 to 15/12/15 – no further treatment
In February of 1915 he was transferred to the 33rd Battalion. For reason not explained John was “Struck Off”. 28 Feb. 1915 – DO # 23 Para:13. He left Canada for England in August of 1915 as part of the second draft on reinforcements from the 33rd Sailed from Montreal aboard the S. S. Heaperian 17/08/15, and continued his training at Shorncliffe, England. John served with the 33rd Bn. – 3rd Contingent Jan 15 to August 1915.
John joined the 21st Battalion at the front in January of 1916 and became a scout in “A” Company. He survived almost a year and a half at the front unscathed, seeing some of the most brutal combat of the war.
He was killed during the attack on Vimy Ridge. He was buried by his comrades near Neuvill-Saint-Vaast, but when the war ended, his remains were exhumed and reburied at Nine Elms. 21st Battalion website.

Killed at the age of 24 with the (EOR)- 21st Bn.
