Regimental number: 3131349. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 8592 – 67, Item: 245622, PDF:- B8592-SO67. Date of Birth: 19/01/1896 at Tilbury, ON. the son of Marie St. Dennis of Tilbury. A single farmer had been working on the railroad. MSA 727939 AC. Medical exam: 30/10/1917 at Tilbury. Attestation: 5/01/1918 at London, ON. to 1st WOR. Declaration: 5/01/18.

Apparent age: 21 yrs. 11 Mths., Height: 5’ 9:, Girth: 37”, Weight: 148 # Complexion: Fair, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Dark. Scare over McBurney point, Vision: 20/20, Hearing: Normal 5/01/18.  

The son of Peter and Marie St. Dennis; brother of William and Gabriel and sisters Mrs. Clarence Campbell, Mrs. Joseph Bisnaire and Mrs. Harold Emery.  Married to Violet and they had two daughters Alice and Evelyn.

Private Edgar St. Dennis left for overseas with a draft from the 1st. Depot Battalion January 31st, 1918, and proceeded to France June 2nd, 1918, to the 44th, Canadian Battalion.  Arrived in France 2/06/18. He was 23 yrs. old when he suffered  a GSW to the back. (In this case the GSW was from shrapnel pieces to his spine.) JRH.   

11/09/18 Adm. 14 Stat. Hosp. – Wimereux for a GSW to the spine. 13/ 09/18 Seriously ill status. 9/09/18 GSW –Spine 14TH Stat at BOULOGNE Seriously ill. 17/12/18 Cdn. Spel. – Buxton – Back. 14/03/19 5th Cdn. Gen. – Kirkdale. A large piece of shrapnel lying posterior – between the 2nd 2nd and 3 rd. lumber.  14/04/19 – Invalided to Canada. Sailing list 5-MDI.

Tilburyites Wounded

“Louis Bourdeau was officially reported wounded on Saturday. He left for overseas last January with Edgar St. Dennis who was also reported dangerously wounded at the same time. They both enlisted from Tilbury. Both their parents reside in Tilbury.”

Edgar was reported returned from overseas aboard the hospital ship “ARAGUAYA”  25/04/19 which arrived at Portland, Maine, USA. In the CDN 28/04/1919, also in IODE (Photo).

Admitted to Military Hosp. Looting 16/12/19. Discharged 13/03/19. 18/06/19 CMH 18/06/19. 26/07/19 CMH AWL – 21 days. AWL 26/07/19 . He was Doc. for 21 days. 26/07/19 to 19/08/19 

Date of Discharge 10/09/19 at Toronto, ON. 1st Bn. WOR. – MEDICALLY UNFIT.

Edgar passed away 28 January, 1942 at the age of 46 years at his home on West Canal St., Tilbury. A semi-invalid the result of spinal injuries suffered while serving during the Great War. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Tilbury North Twsp.
