Previous Military Experience… Served with the Signallers, Kent Regiment four years.
Son of Mr. Fred A. and Minnie Spurgeon of 86 Murray St., Chatham. ON., brother of Gordon Charles (A106446) and Arthur Albert (A110062). Prior to the war Fred worked at Hadley’s, in Chatham.
He enlisted 21/03/1940 in London, ON and went overseas in August of the same year. Fred served with the RCE on the European front and as a clerk with 21st Army HQ. Reported returning to Canada from overseas duty aboard the troopship “Pasteur” expect to dock at Quebec City on the 22nd of September 1945. CDN 20/09/45. Reported returned from overseas duty CDN 23/09/45. He was married in England 17 September, 1943 to Miss Jean Carter of Hortslade, Sussex, Fngland. and had a wife and a ten month old daughter still in England when Fred returned to Chatham. CDN 26/09/45 and 22/09/43 at the outset of a 14 day furlough.

Received the C.V.S.M. and clasp the France and Germany Star the 1939-45 Star and the Defence [sic] Medal.
