Son of Mr. And Mrs. Lou F. Springer of Lacroix St., Chatham, ON. Married Gladys (Lucier) of Wallaceburg, with Donald Maynard in the first double ring ceremony in Chatham for service men in WWII.  William remarried after divorce from Gladys Lucier.  He settled in England in December 1945, married Joan Muriel Powers, a ballerina, and went on to have five children.  He frequently returned to Canada to visit family. He ran a very successful engineering business in England until his retirement in 1981 and he died November 29, 1991.

Previous Military Experience… None

History After Enlistment… Trained in London and Camp Borden. Went overseas in March 1940 and served as a despatch [sic] rider, and saw action in France, Belgium and Holland, where he was wounded on December 24th 1944 while en-route to deliver a message to headquarters. His motorcycle struck a mine causing him to suffer shrapnel wounds to his legs and the impact resulted in a compound fracture to one leg. Returned to Canada May 1945 and hospitalized in London.
