Private Grant Snary trained at London, Ontario until April 21st, 1916, when he went overseas with the 70th. Battalion, and after a short training at Shorncliffe, proceeded to France June 4th, 1916, with a draft of two hundred men to reinforce the 5th. C.M.R. He took a course in a machine gun school and was with the machine gun section when he was wounded at the second Battle of Ypres, August 13th, 1916. He was admitted to the 3rd. Scottish General Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland, remaining there until the latter part of October, when he was transferred to the Red Cross Convalescentment and was on the Military Police Force. In February 1917 he continued training at Hastings but in May was transferred to the Canadian Ordnance Corps, Ashford, Kent, being unfit for further active service in France. He married Miss Kathleen Barker of London, England, September 22nd, 1917.
