The son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Smith of Chatham Gore, Kent Co. ON. Brother of Cpl. Douglas (RCR), he was KIA in Italy in September of 1944  and John E., RCAMC serving in Holland.

Stewart appears in a photograph of 27 Navy recruits from HMCS Hunter about to leave Windsor for PEI., for additional training in November of 1942. [for photo see REID, Robert James.]

He enlisted in November of 1942 and had been overseas for 18 months Stewart served as a gunner on a Motor Torpedo boat. Part of a Flotilla around the coasts of Belgium and Holland.

Husband of Frances Elizabeth (nee Davis), father of Laurie (Young), Barry, Britton, Cheryl (MacKeller), Pat (LaGrioux), and Ken.

The CDN 27/06/45 reported that he was aboard a hospital ship expected to dock on or about 29 June, 1945.
