The son of Mrs. W. Smith of Ridgetown, Next of Kin: Mrs. Mary Jeffery of Wallaceburg, ON. A Single.  Member of the 24th Kent Regt. Wallaceburg also at Chatham. A labourer. Attestation: 30/01/1915 at Chatham, ON.

Age: 19 yrs. 3. Mos., Height 5’ 6 ½”, Girth: 34 ½”, Complexion: Medium, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Brown. Slight Varicocele left side. Medical 30/01/15 at Chatham, ON. He reported that he was born in Newbury, Middlesex Co. ON. With his next of kin Mrs. Mary Jeffery of Wallaceburg, ON. A Labourer. Single. Served in the 24th Kent Regt. – Wallaceburg. Attestation 30/01/1915 at Chatham, On.

On another enlistment he attested as Bertram Smith of Kent, England. Next of Kin William Smith of Ridgetown, ON DOB: 21/10/1896. Serves with the 24th Kents – Ridgetown Company of the 24th Kents. Attestation 11/01/1915 at Chatham, to the 33rd Batt. age 18 years 4 Months. 

Date of Service: – 15/09/15. He was debted 2 day pay for not complying with an order from a Superior Officer     

There is little information of how he got overseas but he is in service 4/01/16 an was reported with No. 5 Cdn. Field Ambulance with Lumbago.taken to Div. Rest Station. He was reported At No. 6 Cdn. Field Amb. And discharged to duty 10/01/16.

Lawrence is having a problem with Myalgia and is taken up by 6 Cdn. Field Amb. 20/04/16 and rejoined his unit 4/05/16. 

6/10/17 his “True name”, was Lawrence Bertram Smith and will in the future be know as such. 

He changed his N of K to William Smith, Box 307, Ridgetown.

6/09/ 1917 he was at 30 CCS –DANGEROUSLY WOUNDED by a German ‘Gas Shell’. Transferred to 42nd CCS. Died of Wounds 12/09/17
