Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown). Prior to his enlistment he taught public school at Stewart in Tilbury East. Married his wife and was living in Kingsville.

James would later transfer to the RCAF, training at Lachine, PQ. 

The CDN 8/05/43, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Smith of Tilbury East, Kent Co. James had completed his Pilot Observer in the RCAF. He trained at Victoriaville, PQ. He led a class of 122 with a percentage of 92 in his final examinations. He was presented with a cigarette lighter by the school.

The Merlin Standard 24/02/44 reported that PO Smith had been posted to Patricia Bay, BC. The MS 17/08/44 had PO. Smith in Newfoundland while his wife was with her parents in Kingsville.

The MS 1944 (date unknown) reported that PO. James A and his wife of Summerside PEI were spending a fortnight with their parents in Kingsville.
