Lieutenant Colonel Neil Smith tied for the championship for the Palma trophy as crack shotsman at Camp Perry, U.S.A. He joined the 24th. Kent Regiment, Chatham, when seventeen, being promoted from Private to Major, during several years of service. He went to England four times as crack shotsman on the Bisley team.
Lieutenant Colonel Neil Smith embarked for England March 28th, 1917, on the “Lapland”, transferring to the Dental Corps, He was stationed at Buxton, England, except for sight weeks service with the Dental Corps the latter part of 1917 in France. Left England for Canada January 1919.
Placed on the Reserve of Officers February 1919 due to demobilisation.
