Born 6/12/1923 at Euphemia Twsp., Lampton Co., ON. The son of Mr. John H. and Mrs. Annie Smith who were living at R.R. 2, Florence, ON.
Archie enlisted with the 48th Highland Regt. in January of 1943, age 21 years. He sailed for England with his regiment 9/06/1943 serving in England, North Africa and Italy where he was wounded in action spending six months in hospital as a result. The CDN 7/02/44 reported that Archie was “seriously wounded”, he spent six months in hospital as a result. Archie would return to Canada aboard the hospital ship “Lady Nelson” arriving at Halifax, NS. 20/08/19444.
He was discharged from the army in September of 1945.
After the war Archie served as the postmaster in Turnerville, Chatham Twsp., Kent Co., ON from 1951 to 1960. He was living at R. R. #6 Dresden, ON. in 1980. He passed away 24 September, 1988 in Wallaceburg, ON.
